Halfmile PCT maps
Yogi’s Books does not offer printing services for Halfmile’s maps. We tried to obtain copyright permission from NatGeo, but the NatGeo Vice President informed us that it is illegal for anyone (commercial or private) to print the maps and charge for the printing service. NatGeo said the only way to legally print Halfmile’s maps is for an individual to print the maps for themselves from their home printer.
CDT maps: Bear Creek Survey Service and Jonathan Ley

WHAT MAKES YOGI’S BOOKS UNIQUE?
Hikers state that our books are the best resource for planning and hiking the PCT and CDT.
There are no other books like “Yogi’s Books”.
All other hiking guidebooks give advice from the perspective of one person: the author. We at Yogi’s Books take a unique approach: We believe there is never one “right answer” to any hiking-related question. You put 10 successful hikers together in one room, and you’ll get 10 opinions on the perfect pack, perfect shoes, perfect resupply strategy, etc. Ten DIFFERENT opinions, and every opinion is right! That’s because people are unique. Backpacking isn’t a “one size fits all” type of sport.
Yogi’s Books author Jackie McDonnell routinely sends out questionnaires to recent Pacific Crest Trail and Continental Divide Trail thru-hikers. The questionnaires cover every possible backpacking topic such as gear, clothing/footwear, resupply, maps/guidebooks, snow travel, desert travel, etc. Jackie then organizes all the responses and combines them with her own personal expertise (gained from hiking over 20,000 miles since 1999).
But that’s just the first half of each Handbook. The second half serves as a Town Guide – the most current information available. Every year, Jackie scours the internet and makes thousands of phone calls to Post Offices, motels, stores, Trail Angels, etc., to verify and update hiker-specific information in towns and resorts along the Pacific Crest and Continental Divide Trails. In addition, approximately every other year we take a 10,000 mile road trip to visit all the PCT and CDT resupply locations. This concise town information is printed in the bound book on perforated paper – another unique feature only found in Yogi’s Books. Hikers can keep the book whole, or they can remove the perforated pages and take those pages with them on the trail.
The resulting books are the most current hiking guidebooks available: Yogi’s Pacific Crest Trail Handbook and Yogi’s Continental Divide Trail Handbook.
WHAT? YOGI'S BOOKS SELLS GEAR, TOO?
Sort of. Yogi and Worldwide, owners of Yogi's Books, also own an awesome gear store: Triple Crown Outfitters.
The products we carry are chosen specifically with long-distance hikers in mind.
If we don’t believe in a product, we won't sell it.

I'M TRYING TO PLACE AN ORDER BUT I GET ERROR MESSAGES. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?
As an extra layer of security to protect card holders, the billing address
you enter on your order must exactly match the billing address for your credit card.
If it does not match exactly, the transaction will be declined.
If your billing address is correct, and you're still getting error messages,
make sure your Zip Code is just the 5-digit code.
If that doesn’t work, try another credit card.
HOW DO I PLACE AN ORDER?
Go to the STORE, choose the items you want, and follow the prompts.
WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?
We only accept credit card payments.
HOW OFTEN ARE THE HANDBOOKS UPDATED?
Hard to say. They are updated when there are a sufficient number of changes to warrant a new layout. The latest revision on the PCT Handbook was December 2017. The latest revision on the CDT Handbook was October 2017.
We print in small quantities. This allows the books to be updated more often. This also keeps the printing costs relatively high. You see, printers give quantity discounts; we choose to not take advantage of the cost savings of printing thousands of copies at one time. Sure, it would be cheaper to print enough books to last 2-3 years, but then the books would be drastically outdated by the time hikers purchase them.
IS THE INFORMATION IN THE HANDBOOKS GUARANTEED TO BE ACCURATE?
We work extremely hard to keep up on the changes to trail, town, and planning information. However, it never fails that as soon as a new edition is sent to the printer, something major changes. You might purchase your book in November for an April-to-September hike. In July, a resort closes where you had planned to send a resupply box. There is no way we could have foreseen something like that happening. Just be prepared for some glitches. We do try to keep both books current, but they will never be 100% correct 100% of the time. No guidebook can promise you that. We can promise you that we make every effort to provide hikers with accurate information. Things will not always work out as planned. Get used to that.
HOW CAN I MAKE SURE I HAVE THE MOST UP-TO-DATE INFORMATION?
We frequently post update files to this website. You can print the update file and either make the changes by hand onto your Handbook pages, or you can take the printout with you on the trail. That's your choice. You are in control. To find the Update Files, go to the "UPDATES & LINKS" page. Click and print!
HOW DO YOU OBTAIN THE INFORMATION FOR THE HANDBOOKS?
All the information is first-hand knowledge either from Yogi hiking the trails or from other hikers sending updates to us. The only female Double-Triple Crown Hiker, Yogi has hiked the AT twice, PCT 3 1/2 times, the CDT twice, and the Colorado Trail once. Yogi has personally visited every trail town along the PCT and CDT many times to verify town services. This is first-hand knowledge; it is not swiped from other guidebooks.
CAN I HIKE THE PACIFIC CREST TRAIL USING ONLY THE HANDBOOK?
No. The Handbook is supplementary.
If you hiked the Appalachian Trail, you probably didn't use maps. Things are different on the Pacific Crest Trail and Continental Divide Trail. You need maps on these trails. Seriously -- you *need* maps.
CAN I HIKE THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE TRAIL USING ONLY THE HANDBOOK?
No. The Handbook is supplementary.
I'D LIKE TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE NEXT EDITION OF THE HANDBOOKS. HOW DO I DO THAT?
We always welcome updates from current hikers. It's all those little snippets of advice from former hikers which help out the next year's class. Please send your advice/updates here: firstname.lastname@example.org
DO YOU OFFER AN ELECTRONIC VERSION OF YOGI'S BOOKS?
Not at this time.
WHAT IS YOUR RETURN POLICY?
